BIOGRAPHY:
Michelle Rickaby grew up with two older siblings, Bonnie and Jim. After marrying her high school boyfriend, they started a family with the birth of their first daughter, Melissa. Two years later Melissa was followed by their second daughter, Megan. In 1988, Michelle Rickaby was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Doctors removed her spleen and she underwent 40 radiation treatments. After a long recovery she returned to university to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree. She has worked at the University of the Fraser Valley for the past 16 years and is currently an education adviser for International students.
Besides travelling, she also enjoys gardening, dragon boating and writing. She has published two travel articles and, in 2009, her personal story, My Symbol of Hope, appearred in the April issue of Canadian Living magazine.
