Frances Welwood's Passing Through Missing Pages: The Intriguing story of Annie Garland Foster (Caitlin, 2011) profile's Pauline Johnson's first biographer, Annie Garland Foster (1875-1974), who was also a teacher, WW1 military nurse, politician (Nelson's first female Councillor), journalist and social justice advocate. Foster's involvement in a noted murder trial set in Nelson's Rattenbury Courthouse in 1925 adds mystery and intrigue to her life story. Welwood's husband Ron Welwood of Nelson, a former President of the BC Historical Federation, is the principal creator of Nelson's well-known Architectural Heritage Walking Tour.
