Born in Bradford, England, children's author Alan Woo of Vancouver came to Canada at age five and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia, with a Major in English and a Minor in Creative Writing. He has written for The Vancouver Sun, Xtra West newspaper, Vancouver magazine, Georgia Straight and The Ubyssey to which he contributed a column called Perspectives. As a Chinese Canadian writer, he has also written for Ricepaper magazine. Maggie's Chopsticks (Kids Can, 2012) won the 2013 Christie Harris Illustrated Children's Literature Prize with illustrations by Isabelle Malenfant. This was followed by David Jumps In (Kids Can Press, 2020) with illustrations by Katty Maurey.
