Born in Trinidad in 1954 and raised in India, Greece, the USA and Israel, Barbara Curry Mulcahy of the Slocan Valley came to Canada in 1973, attended UVic and then gained her BFA in Creative Writing from UBC in 1978. She lived with her family in northern Alberta, about 100 km. northwest of Peace River, near the town of Manning, for more than 30 years, before she and her husband moved to the Kootenays in 2012.

A journalist for for The Valley Voice, she has published in various anthologies and written a radio play, Bird on a Branch, that won CBC's 5th Alberta Write for Radio Competition. Her poetry collection, The Man with the Dancing Monkey, was shortlisted for the Lowther and the Lampert Awards in 1998.
