Born in Oxford, England, in 1956, Christina Mackie came to Canada as an infant and lived first in Edmonton and moved to Vancouver Island in 1968. She studied at the Banff School of Art, Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design), and moved to England in 1975, aged eighteen, to attend St. Martins School of Art in London. She has lived there ever since. She won the Beck's Futures Art Prize in 2005 and the Tate Britain Commission in 2015.
