Wounded in World War I when he served with the 44th Battalion, and taken as a prisoner of war in World War II in the Battle of Hong Kong, Major Kenneth G. Baird died in 1957. Harvelyn, his daughter in Victoria, transcribed his letters in Letters to Harvelyn (Harper Collins Canada, 2002). It serves as a poignant diary of Major Baird's experiences for four years in the POW camps at Shamshuipo and Kowloon.
