Almeda Glenn Miller, born in 1960 of Anglo-Indian descent, is the former owner of Goldrush Books in Rossland. She teaches creative writing in the Kootenays and has written a first novel, Tiger Dreams (Raincoast, 2005), in which a 37-year-old documentary filmmaker mourns the death of her father. She travels to Pune, India to meet the only remaining relative, an elderly cousin named Charlotte. The protagonist Claire discovers the story of her grandmother Alice—the wife of Gandhi’s jailer—and has visitations from a tiger that gives her clues to Alice’s past.
