A Burnaby native who received her MFA from UBC, Stephanie Bolster has more recently lived in Ottawa and Montreal. Winner of the Bronwen Wallace Award for 1996 (given to the most promising Canadian poet under thirty-five who has not yet published a first book), she published her first collection, White Stone: The Alice Poems, in 1998, and received both the Governor General's Award and the Gerald Lampert Award. It appeared in French with Les Editions du Noroit in 2007.

Other volumes include Two Bowls of Milk (McClelland & Stewart, 1999) and Pavilion (M&S, 2002). She has edited The Ishtar Gate: Last and Selected Poems by the late Ottawa poet Diana Brebner (McGill-Queen's) and The Best Canadian Poetry in English 2008 (Tightrope). With Katia Grubisic and Simon Reader, she co-edited Penned: Zoo Poems (2009).

Also the winner of The Malahat Review's long poem prize (1997), Other Tongue Press' chapbook competition (1998) and the Norma Epstein Award (1993), she teaches Creative Writing creative writing at Concordia University in Montreal.

She was one of seven finalists for the 2019 CBC Poetry Prize, for the poem, Shelter Object.
