A Vancouver Sun photographer, he provided pictures for Barry Broadfoot's first book, Stanley Park: An Island in the City, published by November House in 1972. It recounts the history of the park that was conceived in 1886, not long after a fire had destroyed most of the settlement that became Vancouver. The city council petitioned the federal government for control of 999 acres of land set aside for military purposes. The conveyance occurred in 1887. The following year Stanley Park was named for Lord Stanley, Governor General of Canada from 1888 to 1893. It's the second-largest urban park in Canada, second only to Nose Hill Park in Calgary.
