Born in Kamloops in 1966, Laura J. Cutler grew up in Kamloops and lived in Halifax for ten years before moving to Vancouver in 1996. She later moved to Calgary. She has worked as a hotel manager, an RCMP officer, and ESL teacher and a flight attendant. In her first collection, Out of her Backpack, Canadian travelers ditch the Club Med brochures to visit the Czech Republic, Kuala Lumpur and Third World zones. Cutler has examined the emotional lives of female characters, including a lounge singer, a divorceé and an aging stripper, to reveal how each woman has risked being viewed as maladjusted in This Side of Bonkers (Turnstone $17.95). Her second story collection was Jumping Off.
