Born in Cowichan Station, B.C., on May 19 1914, he started writing for the Cowichan Leader in high school. He continued writing for the paper for 65 years. In 1933 he started working in the woods and in 1945 he bought out a falling contractor. He retired in 1952 and returned four years later to take on a job as superintendent of Scaling for MacMillan-Bloedel's Shawnigan division. On the F Line (Forest History Association, 1995) is a collection of forestry and logging poems Fleetwood wrote while working in the woods.
