Having come to the Tofino area after World War I as a war bride, Dorothy Abraham self-published a journal, Lone Cone (1945), to educate a new generation of war brides after World War II by chronicling pioneer life on the West Coast. She also wrote a very simple history of Victoria called Romantic Vancouver Island: Victoria Yesterday and Today (1947) in which Aboriginals are mostly portrayed as savages. It went through at least six printings. For 30 years she was active in the Girl Guides movement. She wrote a 16-page pamphlet about being a Girl Guide leader in Tofino and Victoria called Tu Whit Tu Whoo: Hoots From A Brown Owl (1973). The proceeds went to the Guide Fellowship Fund.
