"Risk and adventure need to be part of all of our lives," says Haberl in Risking Adventure: Mountaineering Journeys Around The World (Raincoast 1997 $24.95). Also the author of K2: Dreams and Reality (Tantalus, 1994), Haberl was killed by an avalanche while climbing near the Alaska B.C. border in 1999. He worked as a professional mountain guide, photographer and writer. He climbed some of the world's toughest mountains including the Devil's Thumb on the Alaska B.C. border, Alpaamayo in the Peruvian Andes, and Mounts Kenya and Kilimanjaro in Africa.
