Eight years in the making, Bruce Macdonald's Vancouver: A Visual History (Talonbooks, 1992) was a project of the Vancouver Historical Society that documents Vancouver's first 14 decades with a full-colour, repeating grid format in which each ten-year period is examined through the application of the same criteria. A picture of the skyline from Brockton Point at the end of each decade concludes each chapter that includes prominent personalities from sports, politics, business, labour and culture, etc. Vancouver: A Visual History was awarded the City of Vancouver Book Prize in 1993. Born in Vancouver in 1948, Bruce Macdonald grew up in West Vancouver and studied engineering at the University of B.C. He has taught at alternative and secondary schools.
