Ian Mahood of Nanoose Bay was born in 1915. He was a professional forester for over 50 years and a confidant of H.R. MacMillan. His exposé of political manoeuvering and misguided management within the lumber industry is Three Men and a Forester, co-written with Ken Drushka. In 1971 he self-published The Land of Maquinna, partly an historical novel about the life and times of Nootka / Nuu-chah-nuth chief Maquinna, and partly a photographic study of Nootka Sound. Since 1971 a great deal more information about the hereditary chiefs caleld Maquinna during the late 1700s has been made widely available. Mahood's respectful effort is admirable for its time.
