With a foreword by Wade Davis, photographer Ian Mackenzie's Ancient Landscapes of British Columbia (Lone Pine, 1995) celebrates pristine wilderness areas. Born in 1950, Mackenzie grew up in a variety of B.C. towns such as Dawson Creek, Trail and Duncan prior to living in Vancouver. He attained degrees in linguistics from UBC and the University of Montreal. In 1990 he joined the Endangered People's Project, an environmental group in Vancouver, directing and shooting a film about the plight of the Moi people of West Papua called Cry of the Forgotten Land. It received eight international awards. He has also served as photographer and co-author for Nomads of the Dawn: The Penan of the Borneo Rainforest with Wade Davis and Shane Kennedy.
