John Blaine Kerr came to B.C. around 1888 and worked as a journalist for the News-Advertiser and the Telegram until it ceased publication. He wrote the 326-page Biographical Dictionary of Well-Known British Columbians (Vancouver: Kerr & Begg, 1890), one of the earliest books printed in Vancouver. His book provided some fodder for T.W. Paterson's Capital Characters: A Celebration of Victorian Eccentrics.
