Carsten Stroud was born in 1946 and raised in a military family in Quebec. After obtaining an Art History degree and quitting the Toronto police force in 1972, he wrote a number one non-fiction bestseller in Canada, Blue Wall, followed by his account of two years observing a Bronx Homicide squad, Close Pursuit, which was a bestseller in the U.S. Sniper's Moon, his novel about a Bronx sharpshooter, won the Arthur Ellis Award for best first crime novel. It was followed by Lizardskin, a novel about a Montana Highway cop and a rebellious band of Dakota Indians. Contempt of Court is his non-fiction analysis of the failure of Canada's justice system. He has also examined the role of the military in America's psyche and decried the legitimacy of psychiatric defenses in the justice system. He has lived in West Vancouver in the 1990s.
