David West of Vancouver was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1954 and came to B.C. in 1971. He attended UBC and University of New Brunswick where he was poetry editor for The Fiddlehead from 1978 to 1980. His poetry titles include a series of poems about Arctic explorers, Franklin and McLintock, and Picking up the Pieces.

His poetry appeared in over 50 literary magazines, including, The Fiddlehead, Descant, CVII, Quarry, Canadian Forum, Grain, and the University of Windsor Review. His work has also been broadcast as readings, or in dramatic form, on CBC radio's literary arts programs, most notably CBC "Anthology," and "The Hornby Collection."

David S. West died in 2018.
