V. Jane Gordon accompanied her husband to Kenya in the 1940s and stayed through the 1950s. He worked in the British Colonial Service; she started to write a novel about a proud poacher and warrior hunter named Atukan. The novel called Kwa Heri was completed by her daughter, Elizabeth Salmon, of Shawnigan Lake, after the family had returned to British Columbia and her mother died. It was published by The Pentland Press in 1996.
