Nelly Kazenbroot moved west to Qualicum Beach when she was nine. She attended Malaspina College and the University of Victoria, has won BC Arts Festival Awards for her paintings and has been commissioned to write lyrics for a group of children's songs and a choral work. She lives in Nanaimo, BC, with her husband, writer Stephen Guppy, and their two children. For her children's books, she has based her characters Googol and Googolplex on Lego characters she created long ago.
