A resident of Victoria, Simpson was twice nominated for the VanCity Book Prize, first for her surviving cancer memoir, The Perfection of Hope: A Soul Transformed by Critical Illness (MW&R 1977), and later for One Man At A Time (Secrets of a Serial Monogamist) (MW&R, 2000). Her first book was republished with four new chapters, and retitled The Perfection of Hope: Journey Back to Health (Victoria: Emdash Publishing, 2008). Simpson has taught Canadian literature at Camosun College.
