Born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, she has coordinated the Native Indian Teacher Education Program in Chilliwack in conjunction with the UBC Education Faculty. The University College of the Fraser Valley Press published her book, Medicine (1993), from her M.A. thesis. Medicine won a CBC/UBC Playwriting Prize and it was produced in July 1993 by the Harrison Festival of the Arts. The small press also issued her 1994 compilation of her poems and extracts from her father's letters during World War II. "My concept of war was greatly influenced by Hollywood , and I thought that all war heroes looked and behaved like Audie Murphy and John Wayne. It was not until 1990 when I read a box of letters my father wrote from overseas in 1944 and 1945 that I began to form a different view of heroism and to fit pieces together... I learned about the horrors of Normandy in those days after June 6, 1944 and tried to imagine my father dug into his slit trench as he wrote to his family back in Saskatchewan." Co-authored with Adams' father, Leo Madden, Birds Singing, Early and Late was published to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion and is illustrated with period photographs. Adams has lived mainly in Chilliwack.
