Partially set in Vancouver in 1952, Rachel Preston's first novel Tent of Blue (Goose Lane, 2002) is about a mother and her son, disabled mentally and physically, and their attempts to find freedom. Born in Yorkshire in 1962, Preston studied at Emily Carr College of Art in Vancouver before moving to Hamilton.
