He is an SFU political science teacher who has written three books about the Balkans. He returned from the war-ravaged former Yugoslavia (1993) to write Broken Bonds: The Disintegration Of Yugoslavia, an analysis of the causes and consequences of the civil war. "Externally engineered efforts to transform Bosnia and Hercegovina into a 'durable state' are highly problematic and likely to cause continued suffering," he said in July of 1993. His book Foreign Policy Realignment in the Age of Terror (2003) was 'Book of the Month' at the SFU Bookstore.
