Born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire in England in 1935, he has lived primarily in Canada but has also lived in Lichfield in Staffordshire. He was a UBC English professor and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. His critical study Churchill The Writer: His Life as a Man of Letters appeared in 1992, preceded by four works of literary criticism devoted to George Orwell, D.H. Lawrence, T.S. Eliot and modernism during the second World War. In addition, Alldritt has written three novels published by Andre Deutsch in England and St. Martin's Press in the U.S., The Good Pit Man, The Lover Next Door and Elgar on the Journey to Hanley.
