The Makah Indians: A Study of an Indian Tribe in Modern American Society (Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press, 1953; Westport, Conn.: Greenwood, 1974). Colson spent a year living on a reservation with the Makah tribe, being fully immersed in their culture and she participated in their celebrations and daily lives. Her time on the reservation resulted in her detailed description how the tribe lives in modern day society and gives an analysis of their social problems and adjustments.
