John Asher Dunn's first English-Tsimshian reference guide provides more than 2250 entries, showing local variants for transcription purposes, in A Practical Dictionary of the Coast Tsimshian Language (Ottawa: Mercury Series No. 41, National Museum, 1978). It was followed by a non-technical introduction to the phonology and syntax of Coast Tsimshian as spoken in Metlakatla, Alaska, Port Simpson, Kitkatla, Hartley Bay and Prince Rupert called A Reference Grammar for the Coast Tsimshian Language (Ottawa: Mercury Series No. 55, National Museum, 1979).
