With Louis Miranda as his primary informant, the Dutch ethnographer Aert Kuipers published The Squamish Language. Grammar, Texts, Dictionary: Janua Linguarum (The Hague - Paris: Mouton, 1967). Born in 1892, Louis Miranda was one of the foremost experts on Squamish culture and language. A former Squamish chief, Miranda received an honorary doctorate from Simon Fraser University on June 6, 1981. Aert Kuipers presented a paper on Dutch Contributions to the 9th International Conference on Salish Languages in Vancouver and he has published work on the phonological typology of Proto-Salish with the 42nd International Congress of Americanists.
