Since 1992, Michael Blake has excavated an ancient village called the Scowlitz site, located 100 km east of Vancouver within the traditional territory of the Sto:lo First Nation, and he has published research about this site in the Journal of Field Archaeology 27(4) with D. Lepofsky of Simon Fraser University. Chiefly concerned with anthropological research in MesoAmerica, Blake joined the Anthropology staff at UBC in 1986 having gained his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan the preceding year.
