As a synthesis of preceding studies by George T. Emmons and Frances Paul, Sharon J. Busby's Spruce-Root Basketry of the Haida and Tlingit (2003) is perhaps the first book-length study, with colour illustrations, to treat Haida basketry as a separate discipline, not a mere offshoot of Tlingit craftmanship. It is a guide to the appreciation and care of Haida and Tlingit baskets, not a manual for weaving them.
