Seattle-based oceanographer and photographer Elsie Hulsizer grew up on the shores of Puget Sound and learned to sail as a child. Her maritime travels with her husband Steve are recorded in Voyages to Windward: Sailing Adventures on Vancouver Island's West Coast (Harbour, 2005), another cruising memoir that introduces the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Barkley Sound, Clayoquot Sound, Hesquiat Harbour, Nootka Sound, Esperanza Inlet, Kyuquot Sound and Checleset Bay. Hulsizer works as Industrial Waste Program Manager for the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks.
